Capacity of mini SD card

The mini SD Card is a small form of removable and portable memory device, which is intended for use in cell phones, mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and many other gadgets. In 2003, SanDisk Corporation announced the introduction of the mini SD and demonstrated it at CeBIT 2003. The mini SD card was actually adopted in 2003 by the SD Association as an ultra-small form factor extension to the SD card standard. While these new cards were designed especially for use in mobile phones, they are usually packaged with a mini SD adapter which enables compatibility with all devices, which are equipped with a standard SD Memory Card slot.

The mini SD card is made by several different manufacturers and comes in different brand names and its compatibility is universal. The mini SD card is often confused with the micro SD card which is however another smaller SD derivation. The micro SD card can be used in mini SD devices by using an adapter, but mini SD cards can not be used in micro SD devices as they are larger than a micro SD slot.

The mini SD card is currently produced in capacities ranging from 16 MB to 8GB (mini SD) and 4GB to 16GB (mini SDHC). SanDisk announced the 4GB mini SDHC in 2006. Devices that support mini SDHC will work with mini SD as well as mini SDHC, but devices without specific support for mini SDHC will work only with older mini SD cards.
